Mission and Ministry

Our facilities have a diverse and rich history, grounded in the gospel of the healing ministry of Christ. All were founded by the Sisters of Charity and the Sisters of Mercy. They were dedicated, energetic women, who have always engaged broad-based community support in response to healthcare needs in the community, especially among the poor and disadvantaged.

The 150 year history of St Vincent’s reveals remarkable stories of how, in spite of many challenges and hardships, the spirit which inspired our founders remains today, embedded in our care to the communities we serve.

Committed to holistic care and motivated by the values of charity, care and compassion, these values are central to how the facilities of St Vncents & Mater Health Sydney respond to the needs of the sick and marginalised in the community.

In doing so, we maintain our fundamental respect for the skills and talents of our staff, and our profound respect for the humanity of every patient.
