Leading the way in maternity care
The provision of a family focused approach to maternity care is one of the Mater's long and proud traditions. Delivering over 2,000 babies yearly, the Maternity Department includes 37 ante/postnatal beds, 6 delivery suites and a 10 bed Level II Special Care Nursery. Mater Maternity Care is an integrated collaborative team of Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Midwives, Social Workers and Lactation Experts, providing everything from preparation for birth and parenting classes through to delivery, postnatal care and discharge planning.
The unit has a full time educator who provides support and guidance to all new staff. Staff also have the ability to rotate within the unit, broadening their scope of practice. Support can be tailored to meet the needs of staff, whether newly qualified or returning to practice.
